THE ALGAE, THE FOOD OF THE FUTURE

MARINE ALGAE ARE GENETICALLY THE OLDEST FORM OF PLANTS AND MICROORGANISMS ON THE EARTH AND ARE RECOGNIZED AS EXTREMELY RICH IN MINERALS AND MICROELEMENTS.

Technological advances today make it possible to extract ingredients from the algae that contain a wide range of vitamins, antioxidants and essential trace elements.

There are millions of species of algae and microalgae in the ocean, of which more than 250,000 have been identified and can be utilized,. However, today we do not even use 3% of the algae identified.

Many are used in the cosmetics sector for their ability to emulsify creams without adding oils, which allows light textures with a feeling of added freshness.

In the nutrient sector, seaweed extracts provide vitamins, minerals and trace elements as interesting as iodine or magnesium, Astaxanthin and many more.

At the dietary level, we must take into account its antioxidant and nutritional power. They are used both in slimming diets and in plasters or added to the bath water.

The algae are used in numerous thalassotherapy treatments that help stimulate circulation and fight cellulite. The application of algae with adduction of infrared thermotherapy has a sedative effect on pain and relaxation on muscle contractions.

A SEA FULL OF HEALTH

There are many species of seaweed that exist in the sea from which it is possible to find some of their fragments dragged by the waves onto the beach. The most common are green algae that are found in the shallower bottoms and grow until they almost touch the surface of the water. On the other hand, in the deepest zones the suggestive brown algae and red algae live. Recently it has been indicated that the different distribution of the diverse seaweed in the marine bottoms are caused for a certain reason. In fact, the color pigments that characterize them serve to make it easier for these organisms to use sunlight, which only penetrates very weakly in deep areas.

The red rays, for example, are filtered first by the ocean water and therefore stop at a very shallow depth. These rays are practically the only ones that use green algae, and for this reason are found in the bottoms closest to the surface. But brown algae, and especially red algae, can live even beyond 100 meters deep, because they can use the green rays of sunlight, capable of reaching such levels of the seabed.

In general, marine algae are antitumor, antibacterial and antiviral, rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, F and K, and minerals such as potassium, iron, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, etc., high-quality vegetables and antioxidant proteins. According to the type of algae and their color (which depends on the depth of the water where they grow), they can provide other special benefits.

Algae are the most valuable food of the future we have. For this reason it is of great importance that we care for our environment so that we can benefit from its properties.
